El Camino Real – A Latin Fantasy Full Score by Alfred Reed Concert Band - Sheet Music
By Alfred ReedEl Camino Real (“The Royal Road” or “The King's Highway”) was commissioned by the 581st Air Force Band and its commander, Lt. Col. Ray E. Toler. This fantasy is based on a series of Spanish folk melodies and underscored by chord progressions used by generations of flamenco guitarists, whose fiery style and brilliant playing have created a vast body of what many consider authentic Spanish music. The music follows a traditional fast-slow-fast pattern, with a first section that is based on the dance form known as the jota, and second contrasting section derived from the fandango.

Thank you very much for sending the score! I couldn’t wait to get it on my hand. And now! I am very very happy to read the score everyday. I take it to go to work and read it in the train everyday.

This is a very nice piece of music. One of the other challenges in addition to the tempo of the first and last sections with all the notes is the meter changes and the counting that goes with it. I would consider this piece a major work as opposed to some filler piece of lesser difficulty and impact. Good French horn players are particularly required for this one.
