ABOUT THE PIECE:“Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” is a song from the 2013 Disney animated musical feature film Frozen, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.In the film, after Elsa accidentally harms Anna with her ice powers, she retreats and locks herself away in her bedroom. The song portrays three distinct moments in which Anna attempts—unsuccessfully—to persuade Elsa to spend time with her: first as young children, then as teenagers, and finally as adults. The final moment occurs after the sisters’ parents are lost at sea during a storm, adding emotional weight and depth to the narrative.This arrangement reflects each of these time periods through changing instrumentation. The piece begins with bells, transitions to vibraphone, and concludes in its most familiar and expressive form on the marimba.
