Published by Overture & Storybook Musical Arrangements (A0.1889216).'Destruction of the Grotto' is an underscore cue from Disney's animated classic, The Little Mermaid (1989). In this scene, Flounder surprises Ariel by revealing the statue of Prince Eric in her grotto of treasures. King Triton discovers this hidden trove and destroys her ultimate symbol of affection for the human world.
This cue incorporates the motif from Part of Your World - it's featured here as triplets which ascend by a major second in various modulations (ie. C -> D and Db -> Eb). This cue also references leitmotifs for King Triton. The opening of this scene is musically reminiscent of classic Disney scores such as Snow White.
The Little Mermaid (1989) score garnered Alan Menken his first 2 Academy Awards (best original score and best original song), with many more Oscar winnings to follow.
This arrangement is a reduction of the full orchestra, and is suited for intermediate pianists. Chords are marked throughout.
