Dante Symphony, S. 109 (Eine Symphonie zu Dantes Divina Commedia) by Franz Liszt Concert Band - Sheet Music

By Franz Liszt

Franz Liszt (1811-1886) composed the DANTE SYMPHONY, S. 109 (EINE SYMPHONIE ZU DANTES DIVINA COMMEDIA), inspired by Dante Alighieri's DIVINE COMEDY, between 1855 and 1856. Structured in two large movements, Inferno and Purgatorio, with an added Magnificat choral finale at the suggestion of Richard Wagner, the symphony traces a dramatic journey from the torments of Hell to the hope of spiritual redemption. Though not performed as frequently as some of his other orchestral works, it is recognized as one of his most ambitious symphonic creations due to its vivid orchestration and daring harmonic language. The work premiered in Dresden in 1857 under the direction of Hans von Bülow. Instrumentation: 2+1(Picc).2+1(EH).2+1(BCl).2: 4.2.3.1: Timp(2).Perc(3): Hp(2): Str(9.8.7.6.5 in set): Women's Chor. Reprint edition.
