Dance of the Epiphytes won the First Prize in the 2013 Penfield Music Commission Project Wind Ensemble Composition Contest (USA) and â€œrunner upâ€ -prize in the Columbia Summer Winds Outdoor Composition Contest (USA) in 2010. â€œI was watching a documentary about epiphytes â€“ plants that grow on other plants. The life of the strangler fig was described in the words â€œDance of the Epiphytesâ€. The composition took it from there. The 7/4 theme flits from one section to another, making a considerable din, with some nocturnal stuff (The Night Gallery) in between and finally an Quasi-Irish dance.â€.
