Creed by William Himes Concert Band - Sheet Music

By William Himes

A creed is a statement of belief. This piece, while not literally programmatic, seeks to convey a sense of affirmation and trust, ideals considered to be the basis of humanity. The result is music which is descriptive and atmospheric, conjuring a variety of moods ranging from reflection to exultation. A natural for contest! This is the most inspirational piece I'd played

Many years ago my junior high band teacher, Mr. McKinney, selected this piece for us (Honors Band) to play. We were truly perplexed, at first, because just reading it, it seemed impossible. But this is where Mr. McKinney was so great: He spoke to us candidly and stated,I believe in you all, I believe you can do this piece...we are going to be achieve Superior rating at the state competition. We did just that. I was first trumpet then. When I played the sample I remembered playing the solo in the middle. Thi song, my teacher, all remain an inspiration. I have searched all over the internet to find this piece since losing my copy long ago. I feel like I've just found my best friend.
