Berlin credited the idea for the song when his physician recommended he try "counting his blessings" to gain relief when suffering from bouts of insomnia. Nominated for Best Song in 1955, it reached the tops of the charts by several different artists including Bing Crosby, Eddie Fisher, Andy Williams, Tammy Wynette, and Jimmy Durante.
