When Claude Rippas asked me to compose something for his trumpet ensemble, I was immediately fascinated by this unusual formation. I had the idea of using the five trumpets in such a way as to create a concertino in three movements for two concertante piccolo trumpets in A, accompanied by three trumpets in C. The first movement, "Allegro" is framed by an "Andante maestoso". The second joins a lyric "Andante" with a "Presto" scherzo. This little piece finishes with a Rondo "Allegro molto vivace", which displays all the virtuoso resources of the instruments.
