Moving through a mélange of diverse influences, from Afro-Cuban and samba rhythms to elegant counterpoint, Mr. Stamp's composition is alternately earthy and delicate, martial and understated. Highlighting a solo percussionist on a variety of instruments, Concertino embraces a range of exotic, sly, and sumptuous sounds in a dialog between exciting solo flights and groovy, toe-tapping ensemble passages.
For greater flexibility, the piece includes an optional division of the solo part for three players and an alternate ending.
