Preludi, Toccate e Fughe. Composed by Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger. Musica Antiqua Bohemica 51. Czech title: Composizioni per organo I (Preludi, Toccate e Fughe). Classical. Performance score. With Publication language: Czech. 124 pages. Editio Baerenreiter Praha #H03199. Published by Editio Baerenreiter Praha (PA.H03199).
ISBN 9790260001138. 12.2 x 9.29 inches.
Already his contemporaries considered Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger (1716-1782) to be one of the best organ virtuosos and improvisers. As a composer, Seger focused mainly on sacred music and organ music. This critical revision of his preludes, toccatas and fugues is published as part of the Musica Antiqua Bohemica series. The compositions build on the works of B. M. Cernohorsky and his school, which draws its style from Italian and South-German organ music; reflections of the influence of J. S. Bach can also be found. The pieces retain a Late-Baroque character, but despite this a separation from the Baroque style can clearly be seen. A detailed historical Preface and Editor's Notes are included, penned by the experts on old music Jan Racek and Vratislav Belsky.
