SATB a cappella.
An excellent carol for the Advent season, "Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus" recalls the birth of Christ as it looks forward to the second coming. It asks Christ to reign supreme in the hearts of Christians and set them free from fears and sins that they may find rest in him. "Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus" was written in 1744, and was the first of a number of Charles Wesley's hymns that became known as the "Festival Hymns". Wesley's words are set to Rowland H. Prichard's tune, "Hyfrydol". Timothy D. Hykes' upbeat arrangement uses key changes and a rhythmic bass line to invoke a joyous festival atmosphere. Sustained notes build suspense and excitement as we await Christ's promised coming.
