Starting with the original folkmelody, the class composed a series of body percussion patterns whichare heard throughout the piece. The countermelody sung by the altos inthe second half is inspired by the Irish tradition of lilting, a form of folkmusic in which singers use vocables to imitate the sounds ofinstruments.
