Chiribim and chiribom are gleeful, nonesense Yiddish syllables. The tune for this song may date back to the troubadours of the Middle Ages, but the harmonies in this arrangement are distinctly modern with a jazz-inflected quality. The humor in the text of the first verse is based on the non-sequitir of juxtaposing the holidays of Purim and Chanukah. The second verse satirizes the miracles attributed to the Chassidic rabbis by their followers. A pronunciation guide for the Yiddish is provided, as well as an alternative English text.
