The lyrics are still in copyright, and so is the title, even if the arrangement has no words.And that’s why the Public Domain title is probably a complete unknown to you.Each player in the quartet (it works with a large ensemble too) has the tune and some enjoyable countermelodies. The soundclip on Sheet Music Plus takes the tempo just a little slower than customary, to suit the slow “attack” of the strings and the chance to build a lush vibrato. Some pizzicato and changes of texture add real variety. For quartets with limited experience, you can take this arrangement slowly - there is plenty of interest for everyone and the music doesn’t stagnate. More experienced quartets can “up the pace” and the music has constant countermelodies coming in to delight any audience.The overall standard is intermediate, and there are a couple of “ossia” bars that might prove easier.The music comprises the opening Theme (which you can hear on the soundclip on the SMP website) and the Trio.
