Adapted from the bestselling novel by Delia Owens, the film (starring Daisy Edgar-Jones) - and the song - tell the story of Kya, abandoned by her family as a child in the vast, remote beauty of the North Carolina marshlands. Taylor Swift's plaintive and poignant ballad recalls the folk-music of the Appalachian mountains, where much of the greatest folksongs of the British Isles, going back centuries, were preserved in their purest and most beautiful forms, and subsequently collected and published by Cecil Sharpe and Maud Karpeles (This little volume contains some very well-known songs, such as Bob Dylan's "Masters of War", based on the English folksong, "Nottamun Town" - AKA, "Nottingham Fair").
