Composer's notes: '‘Brisket ’n Ribs’ is inspired by my love for and obsession with Central Texas BBQ. The proper cooking of smokey tender meat requires patience and skill, as does the proper execution of Basie-style swing music. Trombones and saxophones get the lion’s share of the melody in this chart, with trumpets taking over during solo transitions. The Shout chorus uses a hocketing technique to break the melody into three independent lines. The key to a successful performance of this chart is to relax, have fun, make like Basie and COUNT!
