This particular setting for steelband brings plenty of energy and remains true to the original format of the song. At the pick-up to measure 94, all players are encouraged to sing their part – listen to the original song plenty, and it’s a very singable hook. The bass and drums should continue to play their notated parts.
If you do not have double tenors in your band, a double seconds player or two could be split off to play that part. The guitar and cello parts are separate in this arrangement, but they are certainly playable on either instrumentation that fits the range. Rolls may be applied to notes that are a half-note or longer and to dotted quarter values at the director’s discretion.
The drumset part should be considered a suggested road map. Encourage your drumset player to experiment with adding their own style to the groove and the fills. Especially important in this setting is for the kick drum to drive the energy along.
