This sonata ‘Pour deux Flutes transversieres sans Basse’ is the second of a set of six published by Boivin in Paris in 1728 as Blavet’s ‘Premier Oeuvre’. They were dedicated ‘a Son Altesse Serenissime Monsieigneur LE PRINCE DE CARIGNAN Par Mr. Blavet ordinaire de la musique de S. A. S.’ on the suitably elaborate title page. There are 4 movements, Adagio, Allegro, Sarabanda & Giga. The sonatas are suitable for players of intermediate standard and above of equal ability. Teachers will find the sonatas to be a useful and enjoyable aid in developing independent part playing.
