Published by Chris Webster (A0.1172625).Españoletas and Partidas al Aire Español were written for the five-course Baroque guitar by Gaspar Sanz, and published in Instrucción de música sobre la guitarra española (1674). Both pieces are variations on variations on a Spanish folk theme and work well when played together. The haunting beautiful Españoletas is one of Sanz' best known works. Partidas al Aire Español is notable for its use of campanella effects. Campanella is the playing of successive notes on separate strings, giving a delicate ringing tone. These transfer effectively onto the ukelele because, like the Baroque guitar it has a re-entrant tuning. Sanz' orginal tablature has been followed as far as possible to create this effect.
