I was drawn to the fairytale’s emotional depth and fantastical elements, and I wanted to explore how I could retell it through music, using the voices of a flute ensemble. Russian folk music played a big role in shaping this work. I’ve always been captivated by its rich melodies, earthy rhythms, and expressive storytelling. In this piece, I tried to blend those folk elements with the arc of Pushkin’s tale—mixing lyrical lines, lively dance motifs, and moments of quiet reflection to follow the journey of the tsarina and her son, Prince Gvidon.
