This work is somewhat autobiographical, illustrating the journey of a leaf in late fall as it drifts down a river. The leaf experiences moments of tranquility and turbulence, gaining speed as it is carried along, only to become ensnared in rocks. Eventually, the river frees the leaf from its rocky entrapment, allowing the journey to begin anew. For the moderately-advanced violin student, with a less-challenging piano accompaniment, the piece comes with bowings and fingerings for instructional purposes. Somewhat hypnotic in nature, the work is entirely in the Aeolian mode, with one accidental when the leaf gets caught in the rocks. Please listen to it all the way through. The audience really enjoyed it.
