Agreste (score) by Clark Mcalister Score - Sheet Music

By Clark Mcalister

Agreste is the French word for "rustic" and fully describes the character of this piece. Three ideas are presented: A brief group of chords that start the piece; a two-part theme and finally a declamatory idea which re-appears throughout the piece. The work is a tightly-organised scherzo, more or less a rondo and is built around the development and extension of the declamatory theme. The climax is a full statement of this theme after which the other motives unwind in increasingly syncopated rhythms until it ends as it began, with the same brief set of chords.
