Written in 1984 and first performed in 1993, this sweeping work has been revised by the composer for this release. Incorporating texts from the Missa pro defunctis and the poems of Walt Whitman (1819-1892), the music juxtaposes battlefield images over the traditonal Latin texts. For SATB chorus (multiple divisi) and piano, the music is sometimes chilling and sometimes ephemeral. A significant opus for a capable ensemble. Duration: 25:00.
