3 Storm Pieces for solo Flute Flute Solo - Digital Sheet Music

3 Storm Pieces for Solo Flute is a set of three pieces dedicated to commemorate the, sometimes extremely destructive, power of nature. Each representing a different type of storm, the pieces are works of their own."Howling Winter Wind" describes the story of a strong blizzard, which forcefully strikes an adventurer high in the mountains. Using many extended techniques to imitate the wind-like characteristics of a snow storm on the flute, the piece gradually builds up tension and momentum while developing the idea of an interval of a 4th."Soaring Sea Storm" represents what the title suggests. This piece uses melodic figures based on modes and pentatonic scales present in traditional Japanese music that deals with notions of the sea, as well as including extensive chromaticism to portray the idea of waves. The level of tension in this piece behaves In a way similar to how the sea can seem alarmingly calm and suddenly burst out in into a raging tempest."Desolate Dust Devil" recounts the story of a dust devil. Dust devils are a type of whirlwind that forms due to hot air quickly rising through cold air, creating an updraft. They are usually rather small and pose no meaningful danger, but they are still spirited and vigorous. The piece is inspired in traditional Arab music, borrowing from the melodic conventions of Maqam and from rhythmic cycles called Iqa'
