Burgmuller's most famous work, the 25 Progressive Pieces, are short compositions with descriptive titles. Easier than his Opp. 105 and 109, each selection exposes students to a different technical challenge with the main emphasis on the phrasing, articulation, and dynamics often found in Romantic piano music. The collection includes Arabesque and Ballade, both popular with many early-intermediate pianists. The Alfred Masterwork Library CD Editions conveniently combine each exceptional volume with a professionally recorded CD that is sure to inspire artistic performances.
This title has selections that range in difficulty from SMP Level 3-5.

A firm favourite!
This is a great book for early piano learning, I use it with nearly all my students after they've completed a couple of basic tutor books. The pieces are varied, giving a good introduction to different musical styles and piano techniques. Children really seem to like the sound of all of them, though Ballade is definitely the favourite. The CD is helpful for students who like to know how pieces sound before learning them, though the tempi on the CD are quite fast and fairly unachievable for the level at which most students learn these studies.

Great Book
These are wonderful, engaging pieces. They're full of feeling and movement and rather fun to play. Each piece is very distinctive. This book helped pull me out of a dry spell when I was trying to relearn piano after a two-year hiatus. I highly recommend it for anyone who likes music from the romantic period and/or who is working on developing their touch.
