Originally trained as a naval officer, he later devoted himself fully to music, teaching at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and mentoring eminent composers such as Stravinsky and Prokofiev.Rimsky-Korsakov is especially renowned for his exceptional orchestration skills, evident in works such as Scheherazade, Christmas Eve, and the opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan. “The Flight of the Bumblebee” (1899–1900) was composed as an orchestral interlude within that opera.“The Flight of the Bumblebee” is a piece demanding extremely fast tempo and virtuosic technique; it musically depicts the motion of a bumblebee in flight.
