This collection of bell pieces is put together especially for use by bell players during the Summer months. Each hymn or song uses from 15 to 18 bells, and is playable by a small group of as few as seven players. If your group consists mostly of intermediate players, it is possible to play one of these hymns with a half hour to an hour of rehearsal before the service or performance. This allows for special music in the service using a ‘pick-up’ group without the issues of absences from rehearsals and last minute plan changes. Using only two octaves also allows for quick set-up and take-down of the bell performance area.These hymns are also excellent choices for a larger beginning ensemble. Several of these songs would be appropriate for a ‘music day camp’ setting, in which the music is pre-marked with various colors of highlighters designating players and left or right hands. Beginners who play only one bell per song will also find success in a larger group that uses this collection. (A beginning group would need to hold several rehearsals before performing.) ‘B.’ means suitable for beginners. ‘E.I.’ means early intermediate. Timings are approximate.
