More than simply playing the melody, this is a beautiful arrangement in 3/4 of the Hassler/Bach tune, alternating with original material in a similar, complimentary modal style. There is a dramatic build up to a short quasi cadenza, followed by a quiet restating of the hymn tune at the end. Both the flute and piano parts are not terribly difficult, but not for beginners. I played this for a Good Friday service and it worked extremely well for that setting.
