I am studying cello on my own as an advanced musician in another instrument and that checks in with a teacher sporadically. This book is amazing. I teach another instrument and this book miles above other method books. It's compact and the pieces are really nice, especially for a beginner (not dry and dull like most beginner pieces). I have used it for 6 months as my only book before expanding into other Feuillard Young Cellist books, but others may find they need supplemental material if they need variety.

I use this with all my beginners now. It starts with the C string, instead of the D string, and allows the student to build strength and dexterity in a steady, interesting fashion. The duets included in each lesson are delightful, and the drills/technique work is effective and organized.
