About Vince Gassi
An Alfred author since 2006, Vince Gassi is a much sought-after composer, conductor, and clinician who enjoys composing music for all types of ensembles. With over 50 published titles to his credit, Vince’s creative and energetic style has made him a favorite with young musicians. His works, both challenging and musically rewarding, appear on many international concert and contest lists.
Vince received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada and later studied composing and arranging at the renowned Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles, California. He studied trumpet with the internationally renowned trumpet player and brass teacher, Claude Gordon. Vince has recently completed his Master’s in Composition at York University in Toronto and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. He has taught Instrumental Music at the elementary and secondary school levels in addition to his many years as a private brass instructor.
He continues to receive many commissions ranging from state Honor Bands, high school and community concert bands to university ensembles and symphony orchestras. In 2009, Vince was commissioned to create a work commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Ontario Music Educators’ Association and the 125th anniversary of the Brampton Concert Band. His most recent commissions have been recorded and performed by professional groups throughout North America, Europe, and Japan.
Vince is also in frequent demand as a clinician. He is generous with his time in helping young musicians improve their performance by providing them with insight into the compositional process.
