Very beginning string groups will sound amazing at their first concert with this Japanese-influenced composition from popular composer Larry Clark. Simple quarter and eighth note rhythms, while using only open strings and first fingers, will give teachers the opportunity to stress musicianship with your very young students.
Yorokobi is the Japanese word for joy. It is my hope that this piece will bring pure joy to the youngest of string players who play it and to the parents of these youngsters who hear it. This piece is written for the very beginning string student and can be performed after a limited amount of time on the instrument. What is unique about this piece is that all of the musical material was written so that the players could play either open strings or first finger in the upper strings and cello. Admittedly, it was a challenge to compose with these limitations, but at the same time very satisfying. I hope you find the results satisfying for you and your students.
