  • June 18, 2007 This book is more for home use than performances.

I must say that this book is for the beginner to early intermediate player. I would not recommend this arrangement and accompaniment for the performance level. I recommend Joey Culpepper's arrangements if you are performing.

The entire book from Hal Leonard is done very well. The CD has excellent orchestration (no synthesizers). The arrangements are very creative and there is a good mix of songs and a high school student would have no problem playing any of the selections. There are a few shortcomings. I...

feel there is too much melody in the orchestration so that your solo is oftentimes already being played. Most of the tracks are on the short side. Most songs are between 2:00 and 3:00 minutes so if you play a song as an offeratory you will need to tell the ushers to keep moving!

I would not recommend this book for solo performances. The accompaniment is very shallow, and the saxophone part is only for a beginner. For me this was a waste of money.
