Wind on the Hill

Choral, Chorus, Piano, Recorder (Unison Treble)
Unison. Composed by Victoria Ebel Sabo. BH Mary Goetze. 8 pages. Boosey & Hawkes #M051465194. Published by Boosey & Hawkes (HL.48004289).

Item Number: HL.48004289

The vocal line flows forward in beautifully shaped phrases over the continuous motion in the piano accompaniment. The complementary movement of the soprano recorder line weaves in and out in a satisfyig counterpoint. The melody is delightfully singable and memorable; it will become a particular favorite of young singers. (1:30).

I recently heard my 6 year old granddaughter sing the song in her choir at the Mount Royal College of Music in Calgary. We were impressed and moved.

I first heard this piece in the fifth grade and it's stuck with me ever since. The melody is wistful and lovely, and the piano accompaniment can stand on its own even without anyone singing.
