Where Never Lark or Eagle Flew

Where Never Lark or Eagle Flew composed by James Curnow. For Concert Band. Hal Leonard Composers Series. Grade 4-6. Published by Hal Leonard (HL.4050320).

This impressive work for mature band is based on an inspiring poem written by an American pilot in World War II. The dazzling brass sonorities and sweeping woodwind lines reflect the young man's love for flying and its release from the troubles of the world. A classic band work from the pen of master composer James Curnow.

This piece is great because of all the different things going on at once. I play the first trumpet part and am glad to be presented with a challenge. This truly is a beautiful piece.

This piece was a great adventure as too the poem that ispired Mr.Curnow. We just played this at Band Camp and it presented a challenge but at the end it was well worth it.

This is not only a challenging piece, but it's so much fun to play. We're actually playing this piece for the Symphonic Band but it was originally for the Wind Ensamble at my school. We're decicating it to the Top Marching Band in Japan =]

  • October 26, 2005 Awesome!

I am playing this piece now for our concert band at Morehead State, and everytime I play this piece it just makes me happy. It is the most enjoyable piece of music I have ever had the chance to play. I play bassoon and everytime I play the solo I...

have a tear in my eye to go along with it. I recommend every capable band get a chance to play this piece. The horn part is incredible. I agree with Lindsay of CA, the oboe part is just as beautiful! I rated this piece as Advanced not because it is outrageously difficult, but I believe the band should be up to the challenge of pulling the piece off to it's fullest.

  • May 09, 2005 Best Ever

This piece is by far the best piece I have ever played. It not only has sentimental meaning because of the poem that goes with it but it makes you proud to be a musician. It is one of those pieces that send a shiver up your spine when you...

    hear it.
