The Wedding March was written by Mendelssohn and used for a Midsummer Night's Dream. The reason this became popular to use, is that it was music for the Marriage processional of basically, a Fairy tale. That's how it should be played (and arranged), a fairy tale ending that says "and they lived happily ever after".
