Composed by African-American Spiritual. Arranged by Donald A. Mills (aka Beachtanned). Early Music,Spiritual,Folk. Score. 26 pages. Published by Donald A Mills (S0.49943).

A new TTBB plus bass solo a cappella arrangement of a very old, traditional Negro Spiritual, good singing for a men's quintet or a men's chorus. When this song was heard being sung during the days of slavery, it was a signal for the slaves to run to the nearest body of water to keep the chasing bloodhounds from being able to detect their scent. Therefore, this is a song of social significance prior to the Civil War. Sing this arrangement with feeling. It's of a moderate level of singing experience. Of great importance is having a nice round, deep and expressive bass voice to sing the solo part throughout the song. Your audiences will appreciate the rich melody and sad message that this song speaks to. We need to keep such messages alive so that the social circumstances will never, ever be repeated.
