Violin Bow Technique is a wonderful fusion of Fintan Murphy’s in-depth research into bowing technique with state-of-the-art multimedia software. For players and teachers of violin and viola at all levels.

"In addition to being a highly useful tool for a student or teacher, this collection gives a rare and brilliant glimpse into the sequential thought process of a very good teacher. A student of pedagogy will have a field day here tracing the careful development of bowing technique from an obvious master teacher"

This DVD was very helpful to me. I really appreciate being able to watch, mimic and learn from an expert instead of having to read a thousand directions in a book. My playing has improved since I bought this DVD. I wish the DVD would play in my DVD player...

and not just on my computer, but it's really fine either way. I recommend this DVD highly.

  • January 20, 2009 Attention violin teachers & students!

Contrary to the review provided by Mike P. I would highly recommend this valuable resource to teachers and serious students of the violin. The DVD is comprehensive, user friendly and successful in the presentation of the salient features and practices of bowing technique with reference to current research in string...

pedagogy. The goal of artistic realization through technical assurance is aptly demonstrated by Mr Murphy in this most engaging DVD; however, it is not recommended for a beginning violin student without the guidance of a professional teacher!

  • January 19, 2009 Wonderful violin bowing lessons

This is an amazing DVDROM. It's incredibly comprehensive, wonderfully set out and really easy to use. The software runs identically on Windows and Mac. I've been working with it for six months now, the material ranges from the basics of bowing to some very advanced strokes, and I...

'm nowhere near to exhausting the material in it. Fintan Murphy is an amazing teacher. I've used these lessons to straighten out several of my bowing problems and it's prevented me from slipping into all sorts of bad habits. Highly recommended.

I self learn the violin basics mostly from Mel Bays 'All can play the violin' DVD.I wanted to improve my bowing techniques and bought the above DVD for AUD 50.00. I think I got ripped off. Because the sessions were badly organised, unfriendly and waste of time and effort...

spent to create the DVD. As a beginner and a self learner I will not recommend to others. I have been in education and training for the last 40 years. When I do not find the key learning elements and there are interruption to the learning process, and what I would expect from a multimedia learning process is destroyed.
