Although a staple of the cello (sic) student's repertoire, less frequently played on viola (both parts are included - I've never even heard of its being played on violin) and a lovely piece, it bears very little resemblance to the rest of JC Bach's output. It is clearly...

a work of Henri Casadesus, although it may have been based on authentic fragments or sketches. In all fairness, this is explained in the preface, but newcomers to this work should be clear of its true historical anachronism. This Peters edition is very nicely printed, and for the most part consistent with the original French edition.
