    Pittsburgh, PA
    Difficulty Level:
  • March 24, 2007 A really cool piece.

My chamber opera in Pittsburgh has been trying to get it together to do this piece for several years. Hagen is incredibly subversive while being at his most disarming -- a great combination for a piece about the misleading nature of appearances. Highly recommended.

Is it an opera? Is it a cabaret? Is it a musical? Vera is all of these things -- sort of a combination of Blitzstein's "Cradle Will Rock" and Bernstein's "Trouble in Tahiti" with a wild dash of Britten. It premiered on Broadway in 2003 and is already set...

for revival in Ireland and the UK. Thought-provoking and heart-felt!
