    Difficulty Level:
  • March 01, 2007 interesting variation but...

Most people play the Alirio Diaz version which seems to be the standard. This Blain variation has interesting takes on postion and fingering that are well worth exploring (he often puts the additional notes in parentheses) but he puts the harmonic in the opening measures on the open E instead...

of the open B which not only adds difficulty but doesn't sound nearly as good....doesn't fit. This is why I give it only three stars. Otherwise, a couple of the variations I've added to my normal playing of the piece...they're easier to play well and may not lose much in terms of tone and feel of the piece. Can't beat the price for one piece if that's all you're interested in. Might as well get all 4 in one book(Diaz Vol 1). Number two is a lot of fun.

This is Lauro's most popular piece. Also known as Valse Criollo. The fingering was very useful. Well edited, difficult to play up to speed, but sounds great even at a slower tempo. I recommend it for anyone who has been playing for a year or two.
