Valse Semplice

Valse Semplice composed by Dennis Alexander. For Piano. Piano Solo; Solo. Signature Series. Form: Waltz. Late Elementary. Sheet. 4 pages. Published by Alfred Music (AP.5407).

Rolling broken seventh chords in the bass line and tender, music box melodies in the right hand make this light and legato waltz a perfect performance piece for the late elementary or early intermediate level pianist.

Admittedly, I have a thing for major seventh chords. I remember the first time I was "officially" introduced to the major seventh chord and a shiver went down my spine. That was years ago, but I still love the sound. Dennis Alexander's use of such a special chord throughout...

this charming piece would win me over even if it didn't have a beautiful melody and seamless key changes. I think Dennis has a particular gift for melody as exemplified in all his waltzes and lullabies scattered throughout his many collections. While this piece is not simplistic, it is simply lovely

I ran across the review of Mr. Alexander' "Valse Semplice" and was very surprised! I find this piece delightful and SO beneficial for my students. I especially like that he takes the students into 3 different keys and has beautiful long lines that teaches the student to listen for large...

as well as small groupings. As students mature, this is exactly the type of piece I want my students to play.

I was very surprised when I read such a negative review about this piece. It's a favorite with several of my students---adults at this level also love this piece, especially the modulations! One of my most favorites is "Valse Elegante"---

  • January 22, 2007 No Semplice...

I can respect Mr Alexander's work as "pretty" but this is one of the most Frustrating pieces of music for any student young or adult I know of. I've played piano for over 35 yrs. "Alfred" seems to think his work challenges students but it's just frustrating...
