  • April 14, 2012 A Great Resource for Saxophone Players

I teach saxophone in New Orleans and highly recommend this book to all my students. Paul Deville's Universal Method for saxophone is not for the absolute beginner. It is, however, an important resource for any person who wants to seriously pursue playing the saxophone. The book's focus is...

on increasing technical skills and tone quality. It is not a theory book, meaning that the book does not contain information on how to play different styles of music (e.g. jazz, pop, r&b), however, the skills learned from the technical exercises are transferable. Also does not contain information on altissimo range.

  • November 24, 2008 universal method for saxophone

I have been playing alto sax for about 5 years now and I feel like I should be able to play better given the time I've been playing. I had never bought a method book before, but figured it would help. This book interested me because it has so...

many pages and things I could practice. I like the book alot and feel the difference in my playing ability every time I use it.

  • June 30, 2008 A very good method but not for total beginners

Although I rated this method intermediate, it is actually early intermediate/intermediate/advanced. The exercises do progress in difficulty. As a teacher, I was looking for a method for beginners and found this is not for that purpose in my opinion, however this is a very good book to study...

no matter your level, I now use it among the books I use for practice.

  • December 24, 2007 You need to get this book

I would recommend this book to any saxophone player even if you are really good or a beginner. It is the only instructional book you should ever need to have.
