Un Sospiro

Un Sospiro composed by Franz Liszt (1811-1886). Edited by Maurice Hinson. For solo piano. Masterworks; Piano Solo; Solo. Alfred Masterwork Edition. Classical Period. SMP Level 10 (Advanced). Single piece. Performance notes (does not include words to the songs). 14 pages. Published by Alfred Music (AP.6385).

ISBN 0739063774. With performance notes (does not include words to the songs). Classical Period. 9x12 inches.

The third concert etude in D-flat major from Liszt's Trois etudes de concert will challenge advanced pianists with its constant hand-crossings and varying number of cascading notes per measure in the accompaniment. A lovely pentatonic melody is embedded in the rolling arpeggio-like patterns, frequently played by alternating hands throughout the piece. Keeping this cantando melodic line distinct and phrased while transparently maintaining the flowing accompaniment is the primary challenge of this masterwork. This edition is based on Musikalische Werke herausgegeben von der Franz Liszt-Stifung, Series II, edited by Ferruccio Busoni.

  • September 22, 2008 A worthy challenge

I have played the piano for over 50 years. I love classical music - especially Mozart and Chopin. Taking on Liszt was a change and a challenge for me, as I have played very few of his pieces. I heard Un sospiro and loved it's melodic theme. I ordered the...

sheet music and then took a deep breath when I saw what was required. But, I am working on the piece in sections, practicing the the left hand separately, then adding the right hand. And I am making progress!! May take me a year, but what can I say. Un sospiro is worth it!!

This is a very beautiful booklet. It was very nice that it included the alternate sections such as the other ending.

  • November 13, 2007 Typo!!!

If you look at the first page, you will see the flats on the base clef are placed in the wrong places. Other than that, everything is good.

  • June 26, 2006 To Whisper a Sigh

This piece of music sounds the best if you can play the background extremely fast- while still playing acurately- while also playing extremely soft. If you are able to do such a task, people wont hear the background notes. They will just hear waves of notes. But the simple melody...

(written in the 3rd staff) is what should be expressed the most. It is beautiful :)
