Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary. Score. 4 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2009087. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862475).

Basic avant-garde piano technique consists of using the keyboard as a physical object, and not as a purveyor of tonal musical relationships. Two-Tone Toccata makes use of the most basic aspect of this kind of playing and writing, the dichotomy between the black and white keys. The black keys and white keys are blended here in "traditionally" dissonant ways. Yet, the concept of the black keys as a pentatonic scale, and chords as triads are not ignored, so that the student or performer who is new to this style can have some familiar structures to see and hear. Approx duration is 2 mins 30 secs. The performance instructions are in the score. There is a good deal of hand crossing or placement of one hand over or in front of the other. Pedal can be used for any legato sections, as desired. The time signature is 7/4. Triads are played as block chords and 7th-sus4 chords are played as arpeggios throughout. Black-key structures are juxtaposed directly against white key or tonal structures throughout. Make it into a Dance of Opposing forces, and entertain yourself and your audience with the delightful Crunches, kind of like sonic potato chips!
