  • February 21, 2007 Wonderful Classical Study

Great late classical/early romantic series of studies. Each piece is short to give the student a quick progression through the studies. Some pieces feature 2 and 3 part harmony along with standard 5 finger eighth and sixteenth notes drills which go along great with their scale studies. There are...

25 in all and each sounds beautiful.

I Actually give this around a 4.5 so rounded it's five. The 25 studies are easy to play but not serious practicing. My favorite one is l'Arabesque. It sounds like a professional, difficult song although it is surprisingly simple. I have played it for several friends at parties...

despite familiarity with more difficult and advanced songs. I consider the best piano music that of Chopin, Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven but lesser known, probably less genius artists compose a gem of a song once in a while. Arabesque is one of them, although Burgmuller is not completely obsolete. A name like Tchaikovsky or Bach, however, would probably be recognized more. I recommend the 25 Etuden to all students of Piano. Every one should have this collection as soon as they have the skill to play it, which should not be to long for most people.
