  • December 25, 2011 Great, fun number!

Our volunteer holiday pops chorus has performed this for the past 4 years. Always a big hit with the audience and with the chorus alike!

We have a group of friends who are good sight-readers (choral) and we get together at our home each December to sing Christmas songs (mostly English Christmas carols) Because I was in a small group in high school (in the 50's) which sang this at our Christmas assembly...

, I have very good memories of this piece. So I introduced a secular note this time, and everyone loved it! We of course had a great piano player who could handle the piano part, which is fairly difficult. It took us all back to our younger days.

This is an amusing piece of music, but deceptively difficult. It demands a very good accompanist. It has a lot of solo work and splits into more than four parts in many places, but the smaller chorus can modify and still get a good sound.

Our chorale has enjoyed learning this wonderful old classic. It was not too difficult for our group and at performance, thrilled the audience bringing back memories of Christmas past. It is a delightful choice to enhance your holiday celebration.
