I acquired the score to Tulsa because I played it once and orbited around another ensemble playing it a second time some years afterward.. All in all it's an extremely demanding piece, but one that to my ear is well worth the effort. I am using it to study...

composition and arranging, and it is also well worthwhile. Tulsa divides roughly into four pieces: a depiction of the sunrise over the prairie, full of low, close voicing; a cattle stampede; the laying of railroad track and the conquest of the midwest wilderness; and a circus parade and rodeo, comprised of a load of playful melodies in conflicting rhythm and meter. Lots and lots of fun.
