    Difficulty Level:
  • September 19, 2004 The Personality of the Tuba

"Tuba Rhapsody" by Clare Grundman transcends the usual notion of the tuba by effectively keying in on the personality of the instrument. The melody can be characterized by a superposition of states; it has an undoubtedly humorous overtone and is yet stately in its nature. While nearly half of the...

song can be characterized by an "eigth note-two sixteenth note- two eight note" scheme, there is somehow great internal variety. I first played this piece for the NYSSMA solo festival when I was in the 9th grade. I was effectively blown away by how much it really respresents the true essence of the tuba. I highly recommend this piece to any band or solo tuba player!
