Thunderscape was written to convey the grandeur and awe of one of nature's greatest spectacles, the thunderstorm. The frantic pace of the piece provides a backdrop for the main element of the thunderstorm, the thunder sheet. Preferably, two thunder shee
This work places great emphasis on rhythm. Notwithstanding, there are several melodic themes that develop throughout. The first occurs at measure 12 in the brass, the second at measure 30 in the woodwinds, and the last in measure 71. The piece also eludes a tonal center. This is partly due to the free-form nature of the work. Like many thunderstorms, there is seldom respite from the deluge of chaotic impacts. Intensity and tempo remain constant throughout.

I play 1st French Horn in a Middle school concert band and this is the most difficult piece we have played yet. We have almost perfected it just in time for our concert. My entire section loves it.

I play the saxophone in a high school concert band, and I think this song is awesome. It may not be the most professional opinion around, but someone ought to say what a great piece of music this is! I long the intense, building moments that disappear suddenly. I like...

the word "suspend" to describe that feeling. Thunderscape is a deep, full song with pulsing movement and a throbbing melody that I can't get out of my head! One of my three favorites (along with Shepherd's Hey by Percy Grainger and The Sky by Gary Gackstatter)!!
