Franz Lehar's The Merry Widow is one of the world's most performed operas. The core of the storyline is centered around the widow Hanna Glawari, who has inherited the substantial wealth of her former husband, and becomes the most attractive woman in the country. Beyond the incredibly attractive music, audiences were able to clearly see the parallels between the fictitious homeland of the merry widow's diplomats and the Danube monarchy of Austria-Hungary.
